He was suspected of advocating an attack on the Chinese, and while, alighting from a carriage near his residence a man approached and threw the infernal ma chine, both the general's legs being fractured. He now lies in a critical condition. The man who threw the bomb was killed. A young Chinaman threw two bombs at General Chang-hui-chih, Commandant at Tientsin, wrecking a brougham in which he was riding. The assailant was captured after shooting a policeman with a revolver. General Chang-hui-chih, who is a stern opponent of the revolution, ©bcaped unharmed.
