TO IMPROVE FROZEN MUTTON INDUSTRY.

THE PRODUCERS' EEPEESESTATIVE. Early last year Mr- F. J. Shelton went Home as representing the New Zealand Producers Association, .with ' the object of taking steps to obtain improvements in the^handling and storage of frozen mutton at the Lob don docks. 1 Mr. Shefton retuxed to Wellington' by ,the Tainui this week, and in conversation with a Post representative express ed himself as being highly pleased with the result of his endeavours. His desire throughout, he said, had been to jwork in with anybody and everybody interested in arriving at the desired resalt, and! be was very pleased to find Hut the freezing companies had united for the same purpose and appointed a •representative to enquire into matters in Xondon. ' Th© freezing companies api peared to be working on the same lines as he had been working, and as long as ihat policy was pursued the chances of success would be greatly increased. Mr. Sheiton said that at th© Port of London reform is badly needed. The (Post has not kept pace with th© development of the trade in frozen meat, and the South West India Dock, which has the beet facilities, is rendered almost useless by the fact that the vessels employed in the trade cannot get into it. The Port Authority is about to commence a big 'development scheme, and at hie instigation made alterations which, t«rill be distinctly to the advantage of the frozen meat trade. The intention of the Authority was to carry out those alterations after the main work had been completed — in two or three years' time — < tout, in response to his urgent representations, the Authority agreed to make temporary provision which will tide over the difficulty until the work can be carried out on a permanent basis. That temporary accommodation will be available for the next season's trade, and Mr. Shelton had pleasure in expressing the opinion that he had succeeded beyond hvt. expectations. Only by a combination among those interested, Mr. Shelton added, can success be assured, and le is hopeful that the necessary combination will be achieved. ,
