ENGAGEMENT OF LABOUR.

9. All labour shall be engaged at some definite place or places to do fixed from time to time by an agreement in writing between the secretary of the union and the employer or employers ;oncerned. The. engaging of men. to start worte shall nob commence before 8 a.m., and shall continue till 8.30 a.m., shall cease until 11.30 a.m,, when labour may again be engaged until 12 noon. 10. COAL CARBYING. 15. The ordinary distance for two cairiers at each whip shall be eight yards. For three carriers shall be fourteen yards, which may b* extended to not more than fifteen yards. If the same carriers are carrying to two or more bunkers at the same tune, the average distance to such bunkers shall be taken as the distance within this rule. WEIGHTS FOR TRUCKING. 18. In discharging cargo a aling load shall not - exceed 12cwt, except in the case of a single package which may be above that weight ; and a truck load for onto man shall not exceed scwt. WEIGHT AND CONSTITUTION OF „ . Employers shall in the engagement or subsequent employment of •workers give preference to those members of all wharf labourers' unions who are not more than three months in arrears of contributions. Members of the union to produce their union books as the badgo of financial membership. LIMITATION OF AGREEMENT. This agreement shall apply, subject to the provisions of clause 3 hereof, on to the v/harve*, ports, sheds, and harbours of Wellington, Auckland, Timaru, and 'Lyfctelton. TIDAL PORTS. Th© following are the more important demands for workers at the tidal ports :—: — HOURS OF LABOUR. 1. The ordinary hours of work shall be from 8 a.m. till 5 p.m., exclusive of meal hours, which shall be from 12 noon to 1 p.m. RATES OF WAGES. 2. Th© minimum rate to' be paid for all casual wharf work to be as follows :— Ordinary OverTimo. time.

3. All work done on Christmas Day, Sundays, Good Friday, New Year's Day, to be paid double overtime rates. All other holidays to be paid at double ordinary time. Th© holidays through- j out the year shall be Good Friday, Easter Monday, Labour Day, Anniversary i Day, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, Birthday of 1 Reigning Sovereign, Annual Picnio Day, Show Day, Dominion Day, Prince of Wales' Birthday. As regards payment of wages and engagement of labour Patea is to remain as at present. N IGHTWATCHMEN. (To apply to Dunedin, Nelson, Patea, Westport.) Casual nightwatchman, Is 6d per hour, if employed less than one week; if employed by the week, 10s per night. Hours, from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. No work to be done on Saturday afternoon at Nelson and Patea. MINIMUM TIME OF ENGAGEMENT. 8. Men to receive not less than two hours' pay for each engagement at the. rates ordinary or overtime for the class of work engaged for, whether work is I commenced or not 1 . I Men to receive not less than two hours' pay for a start at each ship. This shall apply to Nelson only. MEAL HOURS. 12. Meal hours shall be : — Breakfast, 7 a.m.. till 8 a.m. ; dinner, 12 noon till I p.m. ; tea, 5 p.m. till 6 p.m. ; ' supper, II p.m. till 12 p.m. EMPLOYERS TO PROVIDE SHELTER FOR CLOTHES. 15 Employers shall provide places on [ vessels for workmen to ' place their clothes when engaged in loading or discharging such vessels.
