WATERSIDE WORKERS
OEMANDS OF THE CONFERENCE FOR OPEN AND FOR TIDAL PORTS. UNIFORM CONDITIONS SOUGHT. After sitting in conference for th© pa&t thra* d»ys, r representatives of waterside workers throughout the Dominion have framed demands for a uniform agreement, which shall include and cover all waterside workers in New; Zealand. These demands are divfded into two headings : those for open ports and those for tidal ports'. During' the ' past few months there has been a gen. eral secession of waterside workers' unions from the Arbitration , Act to . affiliation with tho Federation of Labonr. Representative officials of this latter organisation have assisted materially in the conference just concluded. To-day these demands were submitted to the shipowners at a conferent* ¦which is being held in camera. In th«f late afternoon yesterday the preliminaries wero arranged, for to-day's meeting. The workers -will be represented a* tiiMS conclave by tho delegates who framed the conditions. The delegates of ibe shipoing companies are as follow :: — > Messrs C.
