A Hobart cable message to Mr. Joseph Hatch, the owner, states that the schooner Clyde has been wrecked at the Macquaries. All hands were saved, and returned to Hobart by the Antarctic tender vessel Toroa, which also brought up 389 . casks of oil. The Clyde was purchased in Wellington last August, and this was her first' trip to the Macquaries. _ She was not insured for the trip, being without power. Captain W. Smith was in command. An enquiry; has been opened at Hobart. [Tlie^ Clydo was a familiar figure in these waters, having formerly been 1 a regular trader between Wellington and Lyttelton. She- was then owned and commanded by Captain Gibboiw. Afterwards, when Air. John M'Lean, of Wellington, established a fishing station at tho Chatham Islands, the schooner was bought By hiiri for the purpose of conveying stores and coal to his depot there. The Clyde was not found suitable for his purpose, however, and after lying idle at Wellington for ' some time she was sold to Mr. Hatch. She left here aome months ago on her maiden trip to the Macquarie Islands, and now the cable brings news of her untimely end.]
