MR. W. H. QUICK.

After a long illness Mr. William Henry Quick, barrister and solicitor, a leading and much respected resident of Wellington, died st his home on Wel-lington-terrace at 1i.30 a.m. to-day, in his 68th year. The deceased gentleman was a son of the Bey. W*. A. Quick^ who is still alive in Australia, and was born at Sierra. Leone, on the West Coast of Africa, on the loth October., 1843. and was educated in England, in New South Wales, and Tasmania. He wa-3 originally intended tot the Equity Bar. but had to abandon .the ,idea owing to a breakdown in his health. He served his articles in Sydney under Sit George Wigram Allen,* and w«5 admitted as a solicitor there in'lß66v Soon after that he left New South Wales and came to Wei' -lington.. He was •a prominent member of the Church of England, and was Chancellor of the Wellington Diocese from 1885 until April lastj serving first undef the late Bishop Hadfidd and under Bishop Wallis. Tn the days of the Maori War he was a member of the •Militia, and for many years he Was an 1 officer in the Wellington Rifle Battalion, rising to the fank of majoi'. He was also a trustee of the Wellington Collegiate School, a. director of the Bank 'of New Zealand until his death, aft «iMnember of the Victoria College Council, a former commodore of the Port Nicholson Yacht Club, chairman of the old 'Wellington Conciliation Board, and a members of the Thotndon Bowling Club. Before the Ward system was abolished, Mr. Quick -was elected to represent the 'Lambton district on the City Council,. aftd he proved «« exceedingly useful' member of that body. By his death the Masonic fraternity loses one of its prominent members, the deceased having "been a past master of Lodge Aofangi, ..E.C.. and also a past master of Lodge--■.Waterloo, S.C. ' The late Mr. Quick had not been in good health for a long time befote his death, and for some weeks past he had been confined to his feed. He has left a widow (only daughter of the late Captain Gee. Thomas j of Wellington), and. a son (Mr. Austin Quick, of Messrs. Hoggard and Protise'« staff), ahd three daughters, viz., Mrs. Kemp- Welch, of Eflglabd; Mrs. ■ Inglis. of Australia; and Miss Dorothy Quick, of Welling, ton. The funeral is to take place on Friday, .leaving the family residence, at 10 a.m. A short service" at St. Paul's Pre»Cathedral will precede the interment.
