NEW ZEALANDERS AT EDINBURGH. CAPPING CEREMONY. DEGREES AND DISTINCTIONS.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) LONDON, 4th August. Friday last was one of the days of periodic interest in connection with the University of Edinburgh. It was "capping"' day, and tho names of some New Zealand medical students .appear in the decree list. , Kenneth Mackenzie, son of t,he Hon. T. Mackenzie, seems to nave done great credit to the Dominion, having gained a Gold Medal for his M.D. Thesis, his subject being "Tho Physiology of tho Mammary Gland." The same brilliant student has been awarded the Gunning Victoria Jubilee Prize in Obstetrics. Further, he i holds the first half of the English F.R.C.S. ; (i.e., "the Primary"). In 1908 he secured First Class Honours with his M.8., Ch.B. i examination*. Other New Zealanders who have become M.D. of Edinburgh include: — Agnes Elizabeth Lloyd Bennett, whole j Thesis was : "Some observations on early i Lactation in the Women of New Zea- | land." Eva Meredith (M.8., Ch.B., 1908). "Rickets" was the subject of her Thesis. Charles Treweelce Hand Newton (M.8., Cb.B., 1908), who 1 chose for his Thesis "Fatty Degeneration of the 'Blood and the.Seharlach Granulation. The Degrees of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery were conferred upon the following New Zealanders : •— Harry Foster Holmden, Peter M'N&b (both with Second-class Honours), Hugh John M'Caw, William Henry Johnston (8.A.), David Carmichael ftlonro, Arthur Eisdell Moore, John M'Nair Murray, William Stewart, Donald Watson, and Donald M'Doiiold Wilson.
