HATAITAI BOWLING CLUB. " ANNUAL REPORT.

i The annual meeting of the Habaitai Bowlicg Club, Ltd., will be held in the ' pavilion to-night. , The directors in their* report state that the club was fortunate enough to ! have several months' play during the pact season, aild although the newness of the green prevented continuous play i throughout the season, (sufficient \Vas ob- ! tamed to enable members to enjoy many ' more games than they had anticipated. Members entered heartily into the club competitions, aald the result of the first I season's pky leads to the hope that the club will be able to chow a very creditable record in the early future. Great I interest was exhibited in tho club'e championship contests, and some very close games transpired. The rink com- | petition was won by Messrs. Morrah, Cheesman, Penney, and Mitchell; the ; pairs by Messrs. Ballinger and Mitchell ; tho senior singles by Mr. Mitchell, ihtsi, I gentleman thus constituting a Tecord by I skipping and winning each of the thfeo senior events. Tho- junior singles was won by Mr. G. E. Smith, Who came out victor in each of the nine games played. The green hfis been maintained in splendid condition by the caretaker (Mr. Benson). The club hae now comlort&ble 1 ami commodious quarters. The rei ceipts from so-ials and the letting of the social hall has re-mltert in a return more than sufficient to pny the interest jon the cost of the building. IWr members resigned during the year, and sixteen new members jomed, leaving the nominal membership at e%hty-four. Messrs. E. W. Mills and Company have ! {signified their intention to present a pair of Jacques's bowls to the member 1 who secures the high&sb number of new members during tho eeaaon. The finau' cial position of the dub is not so satisfactory as w*s anticipated, the club being in a position comimm lo new clnbs during their first years. Proposals will fao laid before the annual meeting in connection with the annual subscription. The new rroquot lawn Will be ready for the use oi members' Wives and lady friends early in tho seaSoil. The retiring directors, Messrs. Laurehson. Munro, and Pryor, offer ; themselves' for re-election. The funeral took place thi« morning of the late Mr. William Warden, for many years in the employ of the Gear Company, whose death occurred on Sunday la«t. The large attendance included representatives of Court Epuni Lodge, of which the late Mr. Warden Wd-fi a prominent member. The interment was at the Karori Cemetery, and the Reverend Mr. Thompson was the I officiating clergyman. j The Horowhenua County Council continues to oppose the proposals to form a new county at the southern end of the Horowhenua district, to include the Otaki district.
