HARRIERS.

The Brooklyn Haifiere held on Sa-t-urday the first race for the challenge cup donated by Mr. L. Cooke for annual competition. A five-mile course was trailed by the club captain and A. Oliver, jun., at Miramar. Seventeen i faced the starter, and the two limit ! men, C. Byrne and W. Wilton (17£min) I had a neck and neck race until half a j mile from the finish, when Wilton drew away and won in 23min 17 4-ssec, Byrne second. H. G. Wilson and W. Mansfield followed in that order. F. Byrne secured fasteet time. Byrne is now in the lead for the all-round trophy with six pointe. Next Saturday a teefc race will be run at Miramar between Wellington and Brooklyn Harriers tv select a team to represent the Welling* ton Centre at the New Zealand crocs- ! country championships at Auckland o/i 12th August. Members of tho Wellington Harriere held a race over the steeplechase couree at Trentham on Saturday afternoon, the course being covered twice, a dietance of two and a haJf miles. The thanks of the committee are tendered the Racing Club for the use of the course, and to Mr. A. E. Whyte for trophies. The club will run next Saturday at Miramar, on account of th* Wellington Centre s five-mile teat race to select a team for Auvkland the following Saturday.
