RUSH TO PAY TAXES,
So gi^eat Was the , rush to pay the Federal land tax afl the date of payment expired, that less than £100,000 out of £1,400,000 remained unpaid (reporte the Melbourne Age). Upon this sum an overdue tax of 10 per cent, applied automatically under the Federal Land Tax Act, but a jtfight concession has been ordered by the Acting Federal Treasurer. He has directed that the fines must not be imposed .in those cases in which the money was posted to the lax commissioner on the final date of payment. Mr. Frasser regards these payments as having been in' the custody of the Commonwealth on, the daie of payment, as they were being transmitted by tl» P>tetffll Department.
