AN UNUSUAL CASE.
EMPLOYEE DOES -NOT CLAIM OVERTIME. [BT TELXGBAPH — SPECIAL TO THE VOST.] AUCKLAND, This Day. A somewhat unusual case came before Mr. C. C. Kettle at the Magistrate's Court. A grocer's traveller was summoned for failing to claim double time for work done on Anniversary Day. _ The defendant's excuse was that he simply went to the office and did an hour's work in order to relieve himself of some of his duties next day. His employers did not benefit in any way by it }> and they knew nothing about his doing the work. Tho Inspector of Awards (Mr. Gohn&i was prepared to admit the employer's ignorance in the matter. • > His Worship : Well, can. he recover the money fiom the employers? - Mr. Gohns: No, -I don't think he can. His Honoui): Well, 1 am' asked- to fine a man for failing to something ho could not recover. > ' " Mr. Kettle reserved his decision.
