THE WEATHER.
Indications of the approaching winter are apparent in the keen nights and the misty early mornings. Wellington is experiencing genial weather conditions, but up in the north yesterday^ many districts received considerable rain, which was accompanied by strong easterly winds. Tho Government Meteorologist anticipates for this district and elsewhere southward of Cape _ Egmont and Castlepoint an easterly wind, changing to northerly. Cool and changeable weather may be looked for, with showers in many parts, especially in the North Island. A cold night everywhere is anticipated. The Wimmera. due here this afternoon, has not been signalled at that point. ilie Squall is also having a rough trip down. She is not expected here till the evening. The following tenders wero accepted by the City Council to-day: — Iron railings for convenience at Couitenay-place, Crabtree aud Sons : insulators for electric lighting department. 8.
