[In connection with the shooting of an American by Mexican rebels, and the possibility (as suggested by cable) of international complications following, this from the London Spectator, reported in the Sydney Sun a low days ago, is interesting reading : — Commenting upon the formidable tack tha-t the United States would impose upon herself by intervening in Mexican aifaiis, the Spectator propounds the following interesting conundrum: — If Great Britain needed 400,000 men and two years' operations to subjugate 1,000,000 Boesrs ccenpying a region half th© size of Mexico, how many troops would the United States require to deal with 14,000,000 Mexicans? While expressing the greatest friendliness with tho United Statee, the Spectator urges that thei'O ib danger iv insisting on Monroeism without the means to inaky good.]
