CRUELTY TO A GIRL.
— o WOMAN AND HER, BAILIFF SENT TO PRISON. -By Telegraph.— Prets Associatlon.--Copyr.ight. LONDON, 2nd May. Mre. WilesmitE and her bailiff have each beeni sentenced to two years' imprisonment, with hard labour on the charge of cruelty to the girl taken from the orphanage by Mrs. Wilesmith, and ueed as a household drudge. Mre. Wileemith's eon was bound- over under the First Offenders Act. [According to a recent message, Mre. Wilesmith, a Worcester lady, her eon, and a bailiff employed by her were charged with terribly ill-treating a girl servant, aged thirteen years. It was alleged that the girl was mercilessly beaten and her wounds salted. Mre. Wileemith is a prominent Christian Scientist and a Salvation Army worker. There were stated \o be fifty-four permanent scare on the girl, many being four inches in length. ••■The girl wats taken from an orphanage when, she was seven years old, and it was alleged made j a houeehold drudge.]
