SCHOOLS FOOTBALL.
POSITION OF PRIVATE SCHOOLS. For several years past the Marist Bros, have made application to be admitted to the Wellington Public Schools Rugby Union, aud always the request has been declined. This year the application was renewed, backed up by representatives of the Wellington Rugby Union, and at this the Schools Union decided to refer the matter to the Wellington Headmasters' Association. The latter body held a special 1 meeting yesterday afternoon, when members of the Schools Union were present, and expressed their views. After the union's representatives had retired, the association discussed the matter at length, finally resolving to support the union. The Schools Union will again deal with the question at a meeting convened for Friday night. It is stated that the Marist School is not the only scholastic institution that has been refused admission. Wellington College at one time applied, but the application was not acceded to. Proceeding upon its original determination to remain a close corporation, the Public Schools Union has, it is said, been quite impartial in its consideration of all applications from private schools.
