TO SOLVE THE LABOUR PROBLEM. TRUE SENSE OF FAIR PLAY. fBX TELEGRAPH — PRESS ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND, This Day. Relations between capital and labour formed the chief after-dinner topic with the members of the Auckland Provincial Industrial Association at their annual dinner last night. The president (Mr. B. Buttle) said capital and labour were at grips struggling for supremacy. What was wanted was a solution of the difficulty. He did not think that was to be brought about by legislation, but only by coming to an understanding with each other on a man to man basis. The Hon. James Carroll, replying to the toast of " Parliament, "' spoke of the necessity of labour and capital working in conjunction towards the advancement of the commercial welfare of the country. The present state of affairs could not go on, for the head could not work without the Test of the anatomy. The. Government had tried to sorvo the labour problem by legislation, but the employers were on one side and the employees on the other, and neither 'were satisfied. He believed they would yet find imbued in all sections of the public a true sense of fair play. When they • arrived at that understanding the problem was solved.
