GARRISON ARTILLERY TO BE RECRUITED. The reorganisation of ihe Garrison Artillery consequent on the new defence system is now being rapidly cairied out. No. 1 Company (la-tD "Wellington Navals) has taken up its duties in connection with the new battery of Mark VII., &in guns recently mounted at Fort Dorset. This company v/ill shortly recruit a detachment of electricir.ns ior the purpose of running the searchlighiis- to bs used in connection with tliab fort. No. 3 Company of the Garri&o-n Artillery division, which has hitherto carried cut the duties of running the electric lights at Forts Ballance and Dorset, wilJ be raised to the full strength of the ri-ew establishment, and will man not only the .searchlights at Fort Ballance but tile j guns in th^.t fcrt ?ko. This compony was specially paraded last .evening fc-r the purpose of initiating the new work. Lie uton ant-Colonel Campbell, who was ! preoant with the members oi the Divisional Staff, briefly outlined the duties which the company would be called upon to carry out, and explained the requirements of the Major-General. A section of • the company volunteered for the purpose cf forming a gun detachment, und the balance of the company will continue to carry out the duties in connection with the searchlights at Fort Ballance. ( A commencement with gun drill will b& made next v/eek, when tlie detachment will be instructed in 6-pounder drill. A large number of recruits will be taken on to enable the company to man the other gimr. mounted in the forl. These TocrnilE will h& enrolled in accordanco with the latest requirements of the regulations, which ut© that bnly men of good physique can be enrolled for this work. Mo. 2 Company (kite Petone Navals) were inspected by Lieutenant-Colonel Campbell, accompanied by Major Menzie3, on Tuesday evening at Fort Kelburne. There vvao a good muster, ajid ; fort-ma nnma instruction was carried out, Lieutenant Hollis acting us Battery commander. This company is now obtaining tho Territorial service uniform, which will bo worn in "place of the old liayal uniform.
