AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
NEST SATURDAY'S GATHERING. Tho Port Nicholson Amateur Athletic Club's sports carnival on the Basin Reserve next Saturday promises to be a success, judging by the interest local enthusiasts are now taking in the event. Some of the best local men will bo competing, and also a contingent from the Wairarapa. Entries close to-day, and from the numbers now received, the fields in each event promise to be large. Tho meeting 'will be of particular interest, as the Wellington team for the New Zealand championships will be picked after tho meeting. A tug-of-war, for which several teams have entered, and a boys' running race, in addition to tho usual half-mil© walk, are also included in the programme.
