CANARY SHOW. THE AWARDS.

The first /show under tho auspices of the Wellington Canary and Cage Bird Club was opened thj^ afternoon at 52, AYillis-street * (opposite the Windsor Hotel), and it will be open until 9.30 p.m. The club, which only came into existence a few months ago, has made a most promising beginning, ,'lhere are no fewer than 12>0 entries, many of them cf a very high degree of excellence, and the exhibition is well worthy of attention. Mi. H. Muir judged the Yorkshire canaries and finches, and the Norwich canaries were judged by Mr. R. Bailey. The awards were as under: — Norwich clear or tick yellow — W. The remains of the late Mr. Francis Stevens were interred in the Karori Cemetery 'this afternoon in the presence of a large number of relatives and friends of the family. The Rev. A. M. Johnson officiated at the graveside. The workshops staff of the Public Works Department is holding its annual picnic at Trent ham to-day. The grocers' picnic, which takes place on Kilminster's Grounds, Bclmoiit, on Wednesday next, promises to provide a very pleasant outing. Everybody will be mado welcome, and the picnic is free to all. Toys, milk, tea, and hot water will be provided. The sporting events include se\eral married n omen's racea. Tho nrizes and trophios are \ allied at £40. Mr. Holmes, the general secretary of (ho Y.M.C.IL, will inaugurate a series of four talks to men on " I Temptation,'' on Sunday afternoon, at 4 o'clock. The titles will be "Temptation," ''The Tempter," "Typical Temptatiotib,"' '"Tho Secret of Victory." Mr. Wm. Goudie will contribute a solo to-morrow.
