THE CHAMPION BANDS.
CIVIC WELCOME. , The victorious Garrison and Tramway bands will return to Wellington by the train arriving at '6.22 to-night. All ! tramway officials off duty will assemble at the station in uniform, and the Salvation -Army Band will also be in attendance, their offer to welcome the vie- ' torious bands having been accepted by the Mayor. The bands will march from the Thomdon to Lambton Stations, and there disperse. The champion bandsmen -will be welcomed on behalf of the citizens by his Worship the Mayor (Mr. Tv -"M. Wilfcrd), and the City Councillors at the Ton n Hall> en slonday night at 8 o'clock The test pieces and individual itcmi will then be performed. A very jargo attendance of the public is anticipated. The proceeds, with Government subsidy, aie to foe devoted to sanding Dominion athktes to tho Coronation centos at ths Festival of Empire. The Festival of Empire is the outcome of b. proposal by Lord Desborough to hdd an international sports meeting in London during Coronation time, with' representatives of the great self-governing dominion^ Canada. Australia. New Zealand, and South Africa with the elect of C-rsat Britain competing in a series of amateur events in all branches of athletic cport. Tho New Zealand Government, ] ecogiiising thaimpcrianeo oi such a Festival, has ay,iced to arsist by subsidising any sum raited v,ith £ per"£ up to £500. Already several members of the team have been arranged for, including W. A. Wioodger, and it is further proposed to, send other men to strengthen the team and incidentally to advertise the Dominion
