The builders' labourers held a secret ballot and unanimously rejected the masters' settlement proposals. STRIKE IN IMPLEMENT TRADE. MELBOURNE, 17th February. The strike in the implement trade started at the Sunshine Harvester works. The trouble is spreading, and other works are expected to close to-morrow. The organiser states that many unionists have been locked out. MANY MEN AFFECTED. EMPLOYERS DECLINE PROPOSAL FOR A CONFERENCE. (Received February 19, 10 a.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. The implement makers' strike already affects over two thousand men. Tho employers refused tho request for a conference, declaring that there is nothing to confer about. Appeals are being made to unions throughout the Commonwealth for support. The strikers' delegates are dissatisfied. WELSH MINERS. TENTATIVE AGREEMENT REJECTED. LONDON, 17th February. The executive of the South Wales Miners' Federation, on the ground that too much latitude is allowed the managers regarding the remuneration to be paid for work in abnormal places, has rejected the tentative agreement arranged by the recent conference presided over by Mr. Askwith, of the Board of Trade. The Federation suggests an alternative scheme.
