INVERCARGILL WOOL SALE.
[BY TELEGRAPH — rEESS ASSOCIATION.] INVERCARGILL, 17th February. A distinct improvement was noticeable at the third wool sale to-day. There wae a strong general demand, and excellent auction clearances were effected, prices advancing quite £d per lb for medium crossbred pieces, as compared with last month's rates, pieces ako improving from to %d. There- was very* little superfine wool offering, but for what there was to |d per lb moi-e was secured than at the January sales. The buyers numbered only a bare dozen, as compared with thirty last month, and only two represented the Continental trade. Americans were entirely ab&ent. In all, 3133 bales were offered, and 511 were passed in. A good deal of the wool had been held over from last sale, and the rest was mostly station clips. The latter was affected by biddy bids. The top price was ll^d for 20 bales of hogget wool, and the range of prices wa6 : — Fine crossbreds, superior to good, 11-^d to 10^d ; good to medium, lOd to 9d ; medium to inferior, B^d to 7d ; strong do., stag. 9^d to B£d ; gocd to medium, 8^(1 to 7^d ; medium to inferior, 7d to 6d.
