POPULATION STATISTICS
LATEST FIGURES. In this week's Gazette appears a return compiled by the Government Statistician of the estimated population of the Dominion as at 31st December last. It is as under :—: —
Chinese are included in the population given above. The number in New Zealand on Slst December, 1910, was estimated to be 2715, of whom 78 were females. Excluding Maoris, the population increased by 19.795, or at the rate of 2.01 per cent, during the year. To this increase, excess of births over deaths contributed 16,387, and excess of arrivals over departures 3403. -Jl h6 birt'a -™te for the Dominion in 1910 was 26.21 per 1000 of mean population, and the death-rate 9.71, as KlSfcK ISfc 2729 and 922922 respectively in! The deaths in 1910 (9539) wem more ™. l f number registered in 1909 (8959) by 680, and the rate per 1000 ros& trom 9.22 to 9.71. The immbei of marriages (excluding those contracted between Maoris) solemnised in 1910 is estimated at 8200, giving a rate of 8.26 per 1000 of ths mean population, against 8094 sved 8.33, the actual number and rats in 1909.
