BAND CONTEST.

At a meeting of the Band Co-ntest Committee it was announced that tho Wanganui City Band had withdrawn from ihe B grade contest owing to iha illness of its conductor, and that the Dannevii-ke Band would not compete, as some of its members cannot get away. It has been decided to accord an official welcome to the visiting bands on the show grounds on Tuesday, 17th February, and to hold the quickstep on the Wednesday afternoon. The Holiday Association has decided to observe half-holidays on the Tuesday and Wednesday of contest wssk. All the- halls in Palnierston North have been tendered to the committee for tho visiting bands to practice in. Arrangements have been made for a ladies' committee to make provision for entertaining the 500 visiting bandsmen.
