CITY PLANT SOLD.
SATISFACTORY TRANSACTION. A question was asked by Councillor Carnrichael at Thursday's meeting of the City Council as to whether the Electric Lighting Department had received any money in respect of the sale of the obsolete plant, and, if so, how much? The Mayor (Mr. T. M. Wilford, M.P.,) then stated that he had not the figures before him, but that he would obtain them. Speaking to a Post reporter this morning, the Mayor said that the engineer, Mr. Stuart Richardson, has handed him a report of the figures realised at the sale, which was as follows : — The city received £1036 15s, .made up of the following items : — Three Davy Pazinan economic boilers, £444 ss; two Davy Paxman horizontal engines, one Tangye feed pump, one feed water filter, a-nd one boiler ejector^ £400; one Davy Paxman horizontal engine and three unit pump, £192 10s. "Taking the prices all round," proceeds Mr. Richardson, "I think it will be agreed that they are very satisfactory, seeing that the horizontal engines had to be disposed of to make room in the station for the alterations occasioned by the Parsons turbine. Tho whole of the plant was sold with sanction of the Tramway and Lighting Committee." The value of the economic boilers was set down by Messrs. Richardson and R. T. Turnbull at £450 in 1906, when theproperty of the old syndicate was taken over and now, in 1911 £445 5s has beenrealised. Thus the boilers got within £5 15s of their value, but the other engines, whfth realised £592 10s, brought considerably less than the valuation, which ran to about £900.
