FIRE AT MAUNGARAKI.
♦ Between half-past one and two o'clock this morning a fire occurred at the Maungaraki Settlement, Petone, which completely destroyed two practically new six-roomed unoccupied houses. The houses, valued at £430 each, were the property of Mr. G. Jones, of Petoue. iSaeh. was insured in the Guardian office for £300. The origin of the fire is not known.
