Mr. Harold Cox, Unionist Freetrader, who is an unofficial candidate fox Cambridge University, decla; , that as long as Mr. Balfour's pronto of a referendum is maintained, lil is prepared to support at any by-election a Unionist Tariff Reformer in preference to a Freetrade Liberal. Petitions have been lodged againist Messrs. Mastemian (West Ha-ni) and Mathias in connection with their return of election expenses. [The vacancy at Cambridge University occurs through the death of Mr. S. H. Butcher. Mr. Harold Cox formerly represented Preston, but lost his seat at the general election in January last year.] __________
