«B«". A BIG CONTRACT LET. By Telegraph.— Pi ebs Association.— Copyright. LONDON, 26th January. The Daily News Lisbon correspondent reports that Messrs. Vickeis, Sons, and Maxim, Ltd., of Barrow-in-Furness, have secured a contract to build ten battleships varying from 12,000 to 16,000 tons, and an arsenal. The whole amount to be spent on the scheme b/ the Portuguese Government will be £20,000,000 ; but the expenditure will be spread over a long period.
