LABOUR IN COUNCIL. THE SYDNEY GATHERING.
ADDRESSES BY THREE PREMIERS. SECURITY TO WORKERS. By Telegraph.— PreEß Association.— Copyright. SYDNEY, 26th January. The conference of the Political Labour League commenced to-day. Among these present at the opening •were Mr. Fisher, head of the Federal Labour Ministry, Mr. M'Gowen, the New 'South Wales Labour" Premier, and Mr. Verran, the Labour Premier of South Australia. The three Premiers delivered congratulatory speeches on the progress of the Labour movement. Mi*. Verran declared that he and the other Labour Premiers would not allow themselves to suffer from "big head," but would work together calmly for the benefit of the whol© of the workers of Australia. After some opposition the conference decided to admit the press. The congress negatived a resolution that for tho present objective theie b& substituted the following : — "The development ot a higher individuality and a, clearer approximation to economic justice by the socialisation of industry and the wider diffusion of education." Another amendment, ' favouring the securing to workers of tho lull result of their skill and industry by the collective ownership of the means of production, distribution, and exchange, was also lost. A committee was appointed to confer with the State Premier and AttorneyGeneral on the question of ensuring that nominees to the Legislative Council will vote to give effect to the Labour platform. The debate on the Federal referendum proposals ia fixed for to-morrow. MOTIONS DEALT WITH. (Received January 27, 10.5 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. At the Labour Congiess a motion that full rights of citizenship be granted to women received a majority of one vote, but was lost, as a two-thirds majoiity was required. A motion to limit election expenses to £100 was negatived. It was decided that the hours for voting at Parliamentary elections should be extended.
