MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

To-day's sitting of the Magistrate's Court was presided over by Mr. W- G. Bid<!ell, S.M. No appearance was made by William Jones, charged with drunkenness, who accordingly forfeited a 20s bail. James Wilson, who admitted a breach of his prohibition order, was declared an habitual drunkard, there being sixteen previous convictions. He was .sentenced to a month's imprisonment foi intoxication, and convicted and discharged for ignoring the order. Archibald Cooper and William Patrick Doyling were jointly charged with threatening behayiour and a breach of the peace hi Vivian-street. Cooper was represented^ by Mr. D. Jackson, on whose application the man was remanded until to-morrow, bail being allowed ia the sum of £2. Dowling pleaded guilty, and the police staffed that the two men were seen by a sergeant to engage in a stand-up fight, and were arrested. Each alleged that the other, was the aggressor, Dowling was punished in the sum of 20s, default being fixed at seven days' detention. An allegation of having assaulted Daniel Francis Amey was denied by William Evanß, for whom Mr. P. W. Jackson appeared. A constable said he saw accused strike Amey several times outside the Empire Hotel. Evans was convicted and 1 fined 10s, default being twenty-four hours' detention. William Wilson made no appearance to answer a charge of having failed to place a lighted lamp on a heap of rubbish he had deposited on Johnstonsfrreet. The evidence was against him, and he was mulcted in a penalty of 20s, with 7s costs, liis option being fortyeight hours' imprisonment. For disobeying a maintenance order, John William O'Shea, who made no appearance, was fined 20s, with costs and expends (£1 10s), the penalty for default being seven days in gaol. Mr. Luke appeared for complainant. Two allegations were denied by a builder named William John Allerton Farrelly — (1) that, not being a licensed plumber, he made a connection to the communication pipe, and (2) that he connected a pipe to the water mam at Matai-road, without authority from the City Council. Mr. J. O'Shea prosecuted on behalf of the corporation. The evidence was against defendant, who was fined 20s, with costs and expenses (£1 16s) on the first information, the default penalty being 48 hours' detention; he waE convicted and ordered to pay 7s court costs on the second. Seven days was allowed to pay Donald Fraser, for whom Mr. F. Kelly appeared, was granted variance of a maintenance order in respect of his illegitimate child. The order to pay 5s a week was made some time ago, and the court permitted applicant to pay £53 2s 6d towards its satisfaction. PETONE. This morning, at Petone, before Messrs Mothes, and Southgate, J.P.s, G. M'Kenzie, for obscene language, was fined £2 ; in default seven days' detention. MOUNT COOK. At the Mount Cook Polics Court this morning, Mr. John Smith, J.P., presided. John Wilson, on remand for drunkenness, was convicted and discharged, on condition that he paid £1 17s t medical expenses; in default to spend three days in gaol. Four first offending inebriates, and Albert Hansen, also an offender against sobriety, were convicted and discharged.
