PERSONAL MATTERS.

<r- ■ ■ Colonel and Mrs. Moore left Wellington for Rotorua this morning. Justices Cooper and Chapman are expected to return from north to-morrow evening. Mr. W. R. Haselden, S.M., is gazetted chairman of the Tuapeka Licensing Committee. The Hon. J. Carroll left this morning on a visit to Gisborne. He will be absent for about a fortnight. Mr. F. Witty has been appointed an Assistant Meat Inspector under the Department of Agriculture. Mr. K. F. W. L. Montgomery, of Auckland, has resigned his appointment as a Justice of the Peace. Mr. J. Kirker, general manager of the South British Insurance Company, is on a visit to Wellington. Mr. A. Benner has been appointed Registrar of Marriages, Births, an-1 ■Deaths for the Patea district. Chief Judge Jackson Palmer, of the Native Land Court, and Sirs. Palmer will leave on a trip to the Old Country next April. His Excellency and Lady Islington will be present at the Cup meeting at Wingatui next month. After a few days' stay in Dunedin they will go on to Auckland for a lengthened visit. Th 6 Minister of Agriculture will reach Dunedin to-night (telegraphs our special correspondent), -in order to meet the Scottish Agricultural Commissioners. Mr. Mackenzie will, on Saturday, attend the picnic of Taieri settlers at Mosgiel. The remains of the late Mr. H. M. Lyon were interred in the Karori cemetery this morning, in the presence of a large number of relatives and friends, and business associates of the deceased. The chief mourners were : — Messrs Harold, William, B. and R. J. Lyon (sons of the deceased), Hon. C. H. Milk, Messrs Alfred Mills, F. C. Binns (Christchurch), M'Hwraith (Christchurch), A. H. Holmes, P. P. Webb, W. B. Rhodes. E. Y. Redward, C. Redward, and J. Glasgow. The gathering also included Mr. J. R. Blair (deceased's former partner), Mr. W. Ferguson (who succeeded Mr. Lyon as secretary to the Harbour Board), representatives of the Pacific Masonic Lodges, of which deceased was at one time Grand Jila-ster, Mr. A. E. Whyte (secretary of the Wellington Racing Club, of which deceased was for some years secretary), representatives of insurance companies and the Underwriters' Association, and many of the older generation of Wellingtonians. Rev. T. H. Sprott conducted the service at the graveside.
