Captain W Clifton-Mogg is in command of the New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Karamea, winch arrived at Auckland from ulontreal, via Australian ports, this week. His officers are:— Chief, Mr A. R. Roberts; second, Mr F. F Gunson; third, Mr T. W. Jones, R.N.E. ; fourth, Mr A. H. Hutton. Mr Weddington is chief engineer, Mr Harmon second, Mr J. McKenzie flfird, Mr A. Macadam fourth, and Mr J. T. Smith fifth. Mr Dunn is chief refrigerating engineer, and Mr Loftus second. Mr Davidson is boilermaker, and Mr P. Toms chief steward. On her way to Wellington from Auckland the Shaw, Savill, and Albion steamer Mamari, from London, will call at Gisborne. She is due afc Wellington on Wednesday nest. NOTICE TO MARINERS. The Marine Department has been advißed that two leading beaconb have been erected on the shore of Tokomaru Bay, to indicate as nearly as possible the middle of the stretch of water between Hikutu Rock and the end of the reef projecting from Kotunui Point. The first beacon is about CO yavds back from the beacli, and 40ffc above ordinary high mater, and the rear beacon 150 yards back standing on ground 99ffc above high water. The beaconb in line with one another bear N 84deg. W magnetic, and the line produced passes through Marotiri. ATHENIC'S PROGRAMME. With the balance of her Home cargo the Shaw, Savill, and Albion steamer Athenic is to leave Wellington about Tuesday next for Lyttelton. She afterwards loads at Gisborne, Napier, Lyttelton, and Wellington, sailing finally from the litst mentioned port for London, fia Monte Video, Rio de Janeiro, Tenenfie, and Plymouth on the 23rd February. On her trip to Lyttelton the Hinemoa located the uncharted rock recently discovered between the mouths of the Waiau' and Conway rivers. Several Email coastal vessels which were to have left Wellington last night did not sail, as there was a very heavy sea running in the Strait.
