REVENUE RETURNS.

THE DECEMBER QUARTER. A statement of the receipts and expenditure of the Consolidated Fund for the December quarter of last year, and the figures for the corresponding quarter of 1909 are gazetted. The credit balance at the commencement of the quarter was £265,360. and the revenue amounted to £2,975,789, including ordinary Tevenuo £2,937,823 and territorial revenue £37,965. The expenditure totalled £2,832,200, including £100,000 transferred to the Public Works Fund, and the quarter ended with a balance of £408,940. The details of tha ordinary revenue, with the figures for the corresponding quarter of 1909, are as under.: —

£2,623,566 £2,937,824 The increase' in the Departmental expenditure was £100,817, as compared with the December quarter of 1909. The chief item& are as follows, the figures for 1909 being given in parentheses :—: — Legislative Departments, £12,714 (£9181); Post and Telegraph Department, £216,061 (£161,120); Working Railways Department, £647,320 (£600,100); Justice Department, £94,637 (£101,387); Department of Internal Affairs, £87,013 (£61,752); Education Department, £201,861 (£233,656). NINE MONTHS' FIGURES. The revenue for the nine months of the financial year, ended 3lst December, was £7,204,457, as against £6,513,109 for the corresponding period of 1909, and the expenditure was £6,994,832, as against £6,516,701 leaving aif excess of revenue over expenditure of £209,625.
