From London, via Teueriffe, Capetown, and Hobart, the Shaw, Savill, and Albion hner Athenic arrived m the stream at Wellington at 4.50 p.m. yesterday. After pratique had beea. geanted, the vessel berthed at tne Queen's Wharf about one hour later. A report of the voyage s&atet, that she left London on tha 9tn December, aad Plymouth on the following day. Teneriffe was reached I on the 15tb December, and on the following day departure for Capetown was taken. This stage of the voyage was marked by very fine weather. Capetown was reached on the 31st inst., and after coaling, a cours.e -nas set ! for Hobart on the follow ing morniag, moderate to fine weaiher conditions prevailing until arrival on Friday morning last. The vessel is to leave here eariy next week .for Lyttelton with remainder of curgo. AUSTRALIAN WHEAT FLEET. A great fleet of steamers and sailing ships has been chartered this year to load wheat at Australian porth for the. United Kingdom or tor Europe. From Ist December up till Wednesday last 13 sailing ships and 24 steamers had sailed Homeward bound, carrying 732,141 sacks of wheat. Tnree of the steamers had full cargoes, one of them having ai,253 sacks on board, while the other 21 steamers were carrying part cargoes and small parcels At present there are over 50 steamers and sailing ships in Australian ports loading wheat, and another 50 are on their way to Australian ports. The 100 vessels include 78 sailing ! ships and 22 laige steaniei-b, and the wheat exporting firms are still busily chartering vesi sels to load gram. Freight rates range from 24s 6d per ton to 26s per ton, according to the class of vessel and the loading .port. The Waimate, which left Wellington last night for Napier, subsequently visits Timaru, Port Chalmers, and Lyttelton She leaves Lyttelton about the 12th of February lor London. Yesterday the New Zealand Shipping Company's chartered steamer Afghanistan left Oamaru for Picton, from which port she is to sail on Saturday for Waitaia and AVanganui roadsteads. The vessel afterwards comes to Wellington to coal. The schooner Amelia Sima, which arrived from Lyttelton yesterday, brought 1400 sacks of produce. She returns to Lyttelton on completion ol discharge here. Captain C. McLean is relieving Captain J. F. Crawford, of the Paleena, who is on holiday leave. The Maoriland Company advise that the Breeze is due here on Saturday from Lytttslton, and is to sail the same day for Wanganui. The Storm and the Petone aredue on Monday from Lyttelton and Gbborne, respectively. Both vessels leave port again the same day, the Storm for Wanganui, and the Petone lor Lyttelton.. To complete Homeward loading the Turakina is due at Wellington to-morrow week. She sails on the following Thursday for London via ports. Mr. J. Hughes, formerly chief officer of the lonic, is now chief officer of the Atheoic. Captain S. Kennedy, late of the Taviuni, returned to Wellington by the Moeraki from Sydney yesterday. Mr. L. Bechervaise, formerly assistant purser of the Zealandia, has joined the Victoria as purser in place of Mr. M. Lindsay. A preliminary enquiry concerning the staking of the tug Pilot was held by the Collector of Customs (Mr. C. S. Nixon) yesterday. The evidence taken has been forwarded to the Marine Department for consideration.
