HARBOUR BOARD.
The Harbour Board met last evening. There were present Messrs R. Fletcher (chairman), H. C. Tewsley. F. G. Bolton, C. W. Jones, T. M. Wilford, M.P., W. Hildreth, M. Cohen, and C. E. Daniell. ■ FINANCE. The bank pass books showed as follows : — Current account, debit balance, A/^,914 4s 3d ; imprest account, credit balance, £974- Os sd ; on fixed deposit, £111,138 10s. The payments were:— Interest, accounts and wages, £25,082 10s- 2d ; progress on contracts, £5973 Os 4d ; salaries for January, £793 12s 2d : total, £31,849 2s Bd. MERAMAR SEAWALL. j The chairman reported that the i Governor-in-Council had approved the plans for a protective sea wall to be erected by the Miramar Borough Council at Marine Parade, Seatoun. He moved- that the seal of the Board be affixed to the foreshore license. This was agreed to. CHAIRMAN'S REMUNERATION. The question of the remuneration of the chairman was raised by Mr. Wilford, who suggested that legal opinion should be sought as to whether a resolution could be moved with Tespect to the chairman's salary until aßer the next election. The chairman said he understood that the Act was operative as from Ist January, 1911. It was finally decided to obtain legal advice as to whether the provision in the Act could be interpreted as retrospective, so as to legalise a payment covering th© term of the chairman's office, his term expiring in February next. The Board resolved to join with the City Council in officially welcoming the French cruiser Kersaint to Wellington.
