AN EXPERTS OPINIONS. THE TARANAKI OILFIELDS.

fBl" TELEGRAPH— PBESS ASSOCIATION.] NEW PLYMOUTH. This Day. Mr. J. D. Henry, the oil expert from Home, in an interview this morning with a Taranaki Herald representative, said : "It is the good fortune of very few oil-producing centres to possess such splendid geographical advantages. Shipment of Taranaki oil will never cost the producers more than a fraction of the heavy expenses incurred by the movement of oil in many of the great foreign fields. In California, Trinidad, and Newfoundland numerous prosperous oil ports are being brought into existence, but none possess greater advantages than the port of New Pljmouth." He declares there is reason for optimism as to the development of the field and its influence on the trade of the town. The results secured up to the present are far from unsatisfactory, and the ' companies have done better than concerns operating in such places as Nigeria and Trinidad, at the start. He adds that Sir Boverton Redwood, the well-known authority on petroleum matters. _ has a very keen appreciation of the possibilities of a large industry being established in this island. ACTIVITY IN GREY DISTRICT. GREYMOUTH, This Day. There was considerable activity in the oil industry this morning, owing to Mr. DavTd ZLman, per Mr. Hannam, applying for 12,900 acres at Kotuku on the recommendation of Dr. Wanner, oil engineer. Machinery for boring is now on the water.
