YACHTING REGATTA.

• ♦ RACING IN A CALM. The afternoon events in the Port Nicholson Yacht Club's annual regatta were favoured by a southerly breeze, which sprang up about 2 o'clock. It was very light, however, and the craft were still able to carry full sail. Nevertheless some interesting finishes took place, and the yachts looked very picturesque as they slowly advanced to the finishing line. Most* of the events concluded after The Post went to press yesterday, and the results were as follow :—: — Third-class Yachts (handicap),- once round No. 1 course; first prize £4, second £2, third £I.— Te Rhuna (14min), 1; Nikau (lOnrin), 2; Mahaki (4min). 3. Also started — Rawene (scr). Second-class Yachts (handicap) ; once round No. 1 course ; first prize £5, second £2. third £I.— Ethel (17min), 1; Nanova (12min), 2; Nancy Stair (2min), 3. Also started — Lizzie (scr), Taipare (llrnin), Isca , (9min}. The finishing times were : Lizzie, 2hr 32min 35sec ; Taipare, 2hr 33min; Nancy Stair, 2hr 32min 45sec; Isca, 2hr 44niin 20sec; Ethel, 2hr 36min 56sec : Nanoya, 2hr 35min. The event for first-class events, as stated yesterday, was won by lolanthe, Muritai being second, and Siren third. The distance was once round No. 1 course. Other competitors were : Mahina (2^min), White Heather (2mm), Atlanta (6min), Rhona (2min). Finishing times were : Siren, 2hr 32min 50sec ; White Heather, 2hr olmin 30sec; Mahina, 2hr 30min 30sec; lolanthe, 2hr 35min 20sec; Muritai, 2hr 31min ; Atlanta, 2hr 34min. The Rhona did not complete the course and retired. Naval Cutters' Race ; once round No. 2 course; first prize £4, second £2. — Petone NaVals (No. 2 cutter), 1; Petone Navals (No. i cutter). 2. Also started— Wellington Naval cutters Nos. 1 and 2. Third-class Yachts (handicap) ; twice round No. 2 course; fiist prize £4, second £2, third £I.— Rawene (omin), lj Nikau (smin), 2; Te Rhuna (omin). 3. Also started — Mahaki (scr). Also started — Valeta smin, Runa 4min, Petrel Bmin, Winifred 12 mm, Redwing 7min, Gil Bias 6min, Hinau iOmin, Wai-iti lOmin, Mahan 12 mm. The boats crossed the finishingline aa follow : — Lotus, 4hr 46min 47sec ; Kaitere, 4hr 45min ; Nan, 4hr 43min 50sec; Valeta, 4hr 50min ISsec; Runa, 4hr 49m"in 39sec ; Petrel, 4hr 56min 4sec : Winifred, shr 30sec ; Redwing, 4hr 57 mm 41eec ; Gil Bias, 4hr 58min ; Hinau, shr 4min 28sec ; Wai-iti, shr 17min 51 sec ; Mahan, shr 23min 41sec. Launch Race (handicap) ; twice round motor-boat course ; first prize, £2, second £1, third 10s. — An exciting finish took place, Tender (the limit launch) winning by a very small margin from Waione, the Veronica being third.
