INDIAN CORONATION CEREMONY. RELIGIOUS PREJUDICES CONCILIATED. (Received January 24, 8.30 a.m.) CALCUTTA, 23rd January. The newspaper Statesman announces that the King and Queen, in the Coronation ceremony in India, will place crowns on their own heads, avoiding ecclesiastical participation, which would be likely to injure the susceptibilities of Hindus and Mohammedans. A NATIONAL DUTY. When in Auckland Prince Leopold of Battenburg, referring to tfre cabled report that the King and Queen are to. visit India next winter, said: "That cablegram comes as a surprise to me. Nothing of the kind was mooted when I left England. Yes, of course, in view of the recent troubles in India, such a visit will be attended with some risk, but, -on the other hand, His Majesty's visit would go far to allay any disaffection. Of course, it is a plucky thing to do; but doubtless His Majesty regards it in the light of a national duty."
