The bowling was good, but the fielding poor, and six catches were dropped before the tea adjournment. Llewellyn, Sherwell, and Sinclair batted with splendid effect, scoring rapidly. BIG SCORES BY HILL AND GEHRS. SYDNEY, 2nd December. The cricket match between New South Wales and South Australia was commenced to-day in fine weather, and on a good wicket. South Australia batted first, and scored runs. The chief scorers were : — Dolling 24, Clem. Hill 87, Gehrs 120, Chamberlain 35, and Mayne 22. Scott captured four wickets for 48 runs, and Emery three for 100. When stumus were drawn New South Wales had lost no wickets for 44 runs. Trumper (29) and Bardsley (13) were batting. Hill showed much of his old form, and with Gehrs in an excellent alll'ound, chanceless partnership, put on 160 m 94 minutes. WELLINGTON REPRESENTATIVES. The Wellington Selection Committed has chosen the following to represent Wellington in the Plunket Shield match to be played in Auckland on 24th, 26th, and 27th of December next, and against Canterbury 011 31st December, 2nd and 3rd January :— Blacklock, Birch, Brice, Findlay, sGibbes, Hickey, Mahony, Midlane, Monaghan, Naughton. Saunders, and Schmoll. E, Upham and K. Tucker were not available. The team will practice regularly on. the College ground from 12th December onwards. In the meantime a practice pitch will be prepared on the Basin Reserve. 4 match for practice purposes will be played between the representatives and the next bebt on the Hutt ground next Saturday, that wicket, In the opinion of the selectors, more closely approximating to th« pac* of in* Auckland wickets. On the College ground the practice will be without nets. The selectors, on the whole, have (writes "Half- Volley") made a very satisfactory job of their work. Though the selection of Naughton is open to question — he. is a poor field — he is, nevertheless, a • batsman sound in defence, with a punishing stroke for the loose ball. If he reproduces last Saturday's form he should get runs. Gibbes was hardly necessary with Saunders playing, but Hickej is entitled to a place as the right hand slow. It is to be hoped that Mahony will not be asked to keep wickets, for Schmoll will save a lot of runs there, and can be depended on to make the most of chances coining his way-. Birch is a defensive bat pure and simple, and he should be useful an assisting to "kill" th,e attack somewhat. The inclusion of Findlay ib a good move, and, personally, the writer would have liked to see room made for Patrick, who is working back to his last year* form, jvhicb was good, according to the standard of Wellington cricket. Fmlayson and Grace might be kept in mind ior future representative games.
