The King Edward Memorial Committee received 164 suggestions for memorials to the late King. These have been reduced to four — Historical museum, Lord Avebury's central nail for the University of London, Lord Everj sley's annexe to Westminster Abbey, and the acquisition of the Crystal Palace. ! The committee will further consider Lord Northcote's suggestion of an endowument for tropical research. [Lord Northcote, formerly GovernorGeneral of Australia, in a recent letter to The Times urged that in addition to the statue already decided on aa London's memorial to King Edward, the city should also support the King EdI ward VII. Tropical Research Fund. He stated that Lord Crewe, Secretary of State for the Colonies, Mr. Ramsay Macdonald, M.P., Lord Northampton, Baron Rothschild, Lord Elgin, Lord Kitchener, and Mr. Joseph Chamber--lain were supporting the proposal.] STATUE IN LONDON. LONDON, Bth November. A committee at the Mansion House has opened a fund to erect a statue of King Edward VIL in London, costing from £50,000 to £70,000.
