TOURNAMENT ON BASIN RESERVE.
The tournament which will take place on the Basin Reserve on Saturday next, while of special interest to cadets, scouts, and boys generally, promises Lo be equally interesting to tho adult public. Good ontries have been received for the evnts open to amateur athletes, and thcee alone should be a draw, while the novel side-shows, the Highland dancing, the gymnastic display, and the military band will also help to entertain the public. Special interest should attach to the events in which the boys alone are concerned, and it would bo difficult 10 provide a more attractive item than a display in juvenile marching and physical drill. The semaphore signalling, tho hut-building, and the first-aid exhibitions will demonstrate some of the useful accomplishments the rising generation is being instructed in. Of the mirth'rai3ing powers of the sack race and the potato and bucket race it is unnecessary to speak. Girls are catered for in skipping and a 50yds race. Mrs. S. A. Puhodes has presented a handsome silver cup for the fir.«t-aid competition, to be competed for annually, and Mr. J. F. Atkins has presented "one for the junior cadet marching competition under similar conditions.
