BREAKING A RECORD.
AN ATTEMPT THAT FAILED. £B2 TELEGBAPH — rBES'S ASSOCIATION.^ MASTERTON, This Day. W. A. O'Donnell, of Levin, started at 11 minutes past 5 this morning in an attempt to break the world's record time for 100 miles cycling. The provious record of 4 hours 52 minutes 51 •A -5 seconds was put up by Leon Meredith, the English champion. O'Donnell was delayed by cattle and mobs of sheep, and arrived at the finishing point aboiit 17 minuter to 11, having covered the i distance in 5 hours 33 minutes 5 4-5 seconds, a margin of 00 minute* 14 seconds behind the record.
