MUNICIPAL ORCHESTRA.
About forty performers, members of the newly formed Municipal Orchestra, met last evening in the Town Hall and rehearsed an admirable programme in an admirable manner. Mr. Maughan Barnett gave evidence oi an enthusiastic grasp of his duties and the possibilities of his combination, while the instrumentalists more than fulfilled the expectations of the most ardent supporters of this civic innovation. The list o£ pieces performed was : two movements of a Haydn symphony ; a selection from Massanet's ballet suite, "Le Cid" : the prelude to the third act of "Lohengrin" (Wagner), and the "Cornelius" march. A concert will be given in about a month's time. Weekly rehearsals will be held on Tuesdays for the future.
The Wellington Bowling Club's <?reens will be opened on Saturday, at 2 p.m. Messrs. A. L.
