PROSPECTS OF A SOUTHERLY.

The Government Meteorologist has passed the word for more depressing weather, despite the bright gleam of the hills this afternoon. The westerly is due to swing round to the South down the Bluff way and elsewhere before morning, while the barometer, untrustworthy as ever, is orf the down grade — ■ a slow declension. The southward, the harbouring of so many storms, has apparently loosed another bolt towards the north, and it may be expected anytime after sixteen hours. Meanwhile cloudy and unsettled weather, with rain, is probable generally, and the West Coast, in a monotonously regular way when any low pressure is moving, is to receive more than any other place. Snow on the higher levels of the South Island, and flooded rivers (in many parts) may be anticipated.
