The Bank of Australasia has declared a- dividend of 12 per cent., with a bonus of 16s: £50,000 is added to reserve, £18,000 to premises account, and £15,000 carried forward. SERIES OF JEWEL FRAUDS. AN EXTRAORDINARY AFFAIR. By Telegraph.— Press Atwolation.— CepyrlgU. LONDON, 9th September. A man named Marullo, a postal clerk at Messina, Sicily, has committed an extraordinary series of jewel frauds by means of a system whereby the value of goods payable on delivery was tampered with. During two years Marullo defrauded the Government of £40,000. Ho installed his mistress, a woman named Eva Messira, in an aristocratic villa at Messina, and surrounded her with every luxury. This aroused suspicion, and jewels valued at £5000, together with packages of bank notes, were found in Messira's boxes. Both tho man and woman were arrested.
