PERSONAL MATTERS.
Mr. 0. S. Nixon, Collector of Customs, will leave -Wellington for New, Plymouth on Monday. He expects to be away for about a week. The Mayor of Wellington (Mr. T., M. Wilford) and Dr. Valintine (Inspeo tor-General of Hospitals) were passenger! for Lyttelton by the Maori last night. A presentation of a silver table centre, cake dish, and case of pastry forks, waa made at last- night's meeting of the United Friendly Societies' Dispensary, Board to Bro. R. Dixon. The president, Mr. A. J. Bennett, in making th* presentation, eulogised the work done by, Bro. Dixon, who has acted as secretary to the board since its inception. Mr. Dixon suitably responded. Mr. W. Arnst, who won the Timartt cycle road race last Saturday, and Mr. A. B. L. Smith, who established tb* fastest time in the race, and seven other cyclists, left by the Sydney boat yesterday in order to take part in the Warrnambool to Melbourne .road race on th* 24th September. W. Arnst is a brother of Richard ArnEt, the world's champioa sculler He competed in the Warrnam-bool-Melbonrne race in 1903, but mat with a mishap on the journey, and did not finish.
