FIRST OF THE SEASON.

BUTTER EXPORTS. The lonic was the first butter boat of the 1910-11 dairy-export season, sailing on Thursday. She took 6538 bcxes of butter and 41 crates of cheese for London. The individual shipping ports and the shipments compared with the first despatch last season were as follow, butter in boxes and cheese in crates: — 1910. 1909. Butter. Ch'se Butter Ch'^e Auckland ... 1586 — 1221 5 New Plymouth ... 911 — 1188 — Patea ... 3469 — 511 760 Wellington ... 572 — 467 126 Lyttelton ... — — 150 — Dunedin ... — 41 104 — Other ports ... — — — 83 Totals ... 6538 41 3441 974 About one-third of the butter exported by the lonic is new season's make, the remainder being stored butter. Last year's first boat was the Corinthic, sailing 9th September. It is expected that the new season's make, to reach Home about November next, will arrive in a good market, as Danish supplies are being deflected more and more to Germany, and the same may be said of the Siberian make.
