NOTES FROM LONDON. [iTSOM OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.^ LONDON, 17th June. In accordance with the arrangements made at the recent conference of the Methodist Church of Australasia, held at Dunedin, Mr. John G. Cobbe (Feilding) will be that Church's representative at the Irish Wesleyan Methodist Conference shortly to take place in Ireland. At the conclusion of their visit to the United Kingdom, early in September, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin *T. Taylor (Wellington) will join the s.s. Orontes at Naples, alter a Continental tour. The result of the special examination in modern languages for the ordinary B.A. degree of Cambridge has just been announced. Among the successful students is Mr. H. S. Gascoyen Beard, of Selwyn College, son of Dr. Spencer Beard, of Pahiatua. Two very fine views of New Zealand, in oils, the work of Mr. C. H. Howorth, will shortly be hung in the Pavilion at the Japan-British Exhibition. One picture shows a scene on the Wanganui Biver, the other of the Sutherland Falls. They were brought Home by Mr. L. Cohen, of WanganUi, who has kindly lent them to the High Commissioner for the purposes of the Exhibition. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Grady (Wellington) have been touring in Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, and Holland. Until the end of September, when they leave by -the Otranto, Mr. and Mrs. Grady will be "on the move" all over the British Islands, and they intend to see Paris at an early date. Mrs. Rolleston (Wellington), who has been touring in Ireland, left yesterday by the Adriatic for America. She will come back to London for a few weeks. About one hundred guests — many of them New Zealanders — were present at an At Home given by Lady Stout last Monday, at the residence of Mrs. Brackenbury, at Kensington. Many of the guebts promised to take part in the big procession through London tomorrow evening. Some months ago I mentioned that Mr. I. W. Raymond, of Invercargill, was practically assured of a nomination in the Unionist interest at the coming election. Hie acceptance for the Carlisle electorate is, now announced. This has been a Liberal seat for twenty years, with margins varying from 143 up to 1000. Sir William "Russell has become a member of the Imperial Mission, which has been formed to place before the people of the Old Country the views of the Dominions on defence, preference, etc. The Chancellor of the Exchequor is no longer Mr. Lloyd-George. Since the recess ho has dropped the hyphen, and now appears amongst the "G's" instead of the "L's." The Jap-Anglo ' Exhibition at Shepherd's Bush is sull a favourite resort of New Zealand vißitor*.
