Beckert, at one time German Chancellor at Santiago de Chile, who, about eighteen months ago, murdered a porter, was executed here. [The body of the porter was found in the ruins of the Chancellery, which had been burnt to the ground. It was proved that he had been stabbed prior to the fire. Beckert, who was found to have embezzled £1000, alleged that he killed the porter in self-defence.]
