HOTEL WINDSOR ROBBERY.
ACCUSED REMANDED. James M'lntyr© appeared at the Magistrate's Court to-day to answer a charge of having, on Friday last, committed theft of a quantity of jewellery andi 7s in silver, of the total value of £90, the property of Catherine Mary Firth, proprietress of the Hotel Windsor. Mr. P. W. Jackson, who appeared on behalf of accused, asked for a week's remand. Chief-Detective Broberg intimated that he had no objection, and his Worship acceded. Mr. Jackson then suggested 1 a reduction in the amount of bail previously fixed (£l5O and two sureties of a like amount). Counsel suggested that '£100 and two sureties would be a "pretty good anchor for any man." Chief-Detec-tive Broberg, however, submitted that the amount previously fixed was not excessive, and his Worship decided that it should remain, stating that if it were found absolutely impossible for defendant to raise the amount, a subsequent application be made.
